BDF rented a stand for the Atlas companies of 16 m2 with three sides open. Besides the BDF project team Jan Jacob Hilberdink, Lennard Drogendijk and Hanna Copini the Atlas members: Sipke Scheepsma from Micro Nutritions, Jan Vreeken from Lockwood, Jan van der Tol from Schaap Dairies, Pieter Talsma from Eurofarm and Hielke Meijer and Oebele Alma from Onesto Construction were also present. The stand was set up for business meetings with seats and display cases to the availability of the Atlas companies. BDF hired two translators to support the Atlas companies with their business meetings with potential business partners. For the companies that were not present, the BDF project team tried to put effort in exchanging contact information when this appeared to be profitable. In the following weeks BDF will try to approach the concerning companies to establish a follow up.
(item in Dutch) Kleine ondernemers veroveren Oost-Europa en China Bron: Sprout.nl Steeds meer kleine ondernemers zitten succesvol in Oost-Europa en China of zijn rap van plan die stap te maken. Waarom zijn kleine bedrijven zo succesvol in het buitenland? Waar grote ondernemingen offshoring vooral inzetten om efficiencyredenen, kiezen kleine ondernemers voor het buitenland om strategische redenen. Zo’n driekwart van de mkb ondernemers zit in het buitenland omdat dat strategisch interessant is. Bijna de helft van hen ontwikkeld producten in China of Oost-Europa, bij grote multinationals is dat slechts 22 procent. Grote bedrijven maken met name gebruik van goedkope arbeid, kleine ondernemers van goedkope kennis. Enige beperking die kleine ondernemers hebben, is ondiepe zakken. Er is onvoldoende budget om goed marktonderzoek te doen, blijkt uit een rapport van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. De onderzoekers stellen dat kleine ondernemers in het buitenland het nog beter zouden doen als ze meer zouden samenwerken. Of zoals het onderzoek stelt: "Being a lightweight and nimble boxer who can still pack a powerful punch." (item in Dutch)Bron: Sprout.nl Midden-Azië en Oost-Europa liggen open voor ondernemers. Het is er gemakkelijker zakendoen dan in West-Europa. Dit schrijft de Wereldbank in een rapport. Vooral Georgië en Estland zijn ondernemersparadijzen met minder bureaucratie dan Nederland. Kroatië, Macedonië, Hongarije en Bulgarije zijn in opkomst en schaffen in rap tempo bureaucratische hordes af. Het rapport beoordeelt landen op de tijd dat het kost om een onderneming te starten, de kosten daarvan, de verdeling van eigendomsrechten, beschikbaarheid van krediet en de belastingdruk. Macro-economische factoren worden niet meegewogen. Het best ondernemen is het in Singapore, Nieuw Zeeland en de VS. Nederland moet het stellen met een miezerige 21-ste plek. Atlas welcomes its 25th member: T&K! The goal of Atlas is to support 25 companies from the Northern Netherlands in their efforts towards Eastern Europe. Atlas visited Riga Food, September 5-8 2007 [view pictures] The Atlas project team visited Latvia in September to attend the Riga Food fair. The Atlas team represented the Atlas companies and took the opportunity to get an update from Atlas ambassador to the Baltics Ebbing Osinga on the latest developments in the region. The Atlas team was joined by Sipke Scheepsma of Micro Nutritions, one of our Atlas companies. He came in contact with an Irish company on the fair, and soon will travel to Ireland to discuss further cooperation. Riga Food is a place where food industry professionals from European Union and other countries meet every year to promote their businesses and learn about the latest developments in food and beverages production, processing, the latest technologies, packaging solutions, solutions from stores and public catering enterprises, hotel equipment and services, and to participate in the sector business forum and competitions for international food industry professionals.
 Atlas summer meeting: Hole in one [view pictures] Thursday July 5 BDF played golf with the Atlas members during a summer meeting. The city of Leeuwarden possesses a new Pitch and Putt terrain in the Zuiderburen area. The Atlas summer meeting was visited by both existing and new Atlas members. The programme contained the introduction of these new Atlas members, the evaluation of de Novi Sad Fair and future events. The theme of the meeting was Romania. Atlas project manager Jan Jacob Hilberdink started the meeting with an introduction of the new Atlas members: Dutch Rainmaker (Leeuwarden) FiberPlast (Drachten) MEKO Onesto Construction (Surhuisterveen) Orion (Drachten) Perdok Kassen (Zuidbroek) Trilobes Power International (Joure) The main subject of the evening was one of the Atlas target countries: Romania; an interesting country for several Atlas members. To provide some detailed information, Alexandru Cristescu from the Romanian Embassy was invited. He gave a presentation on the opportunities for Dutch companies in Romania. Interesting fact from the presentation of Cristescu was that the Netherlands holds the largest share of foreign investment in Romania, followed by Italy. Lennard Drogendijk pointed out that BDF’s intentions are to continue the Atlas formula. The current Atlas project ends in 2008 and BDF is convinced that a successor of the project must be realised. To be continued…… Herewith Lennard Drogendijk finished the official part of the presentation and with that there were opportunities for all guests to have a drink and a bite and to discuss business opportunities and get to know the new Atlas members. Soon after everybody was invited to play a round of golf at the pitch and putt course. There were some experienced golfers present but the most people were rather ‘green’ to the game. Both right and left handed golf clubs were distributed to try and actually hit the golf balls marked the BDF logo. After a short explanation of ‘the rules of engagement’ the golf balls flew over the water…near the water.. and …in the water….Some players brutally pitched the balls to places nowhere near the greens! We will not mention complete names of course (a certain Sipke S. and Piet V.) Even left-handed players, with unconventional technique and strategy, were able to offer resistance to the rather experienced opponents that provided them with some obvious ‘well-meant’ pointers. In the closing stages, the amount of balls was half the number we started with, but the golfers succeeded in finding the green quite often! Ultimately, the meeting was a good opportunity to get acquainted with the sport of golf, with both existing and new Atlas members, and with the country of Romania. The BDF team likes to thank everyone present at the Atlas summer meeting. We hope that we will meet again in a future meeting or event such as the Riga Food Fair (September 5-8) or the Indagra Agriculture fair in Romania (November 7-11). Atlas projectmanager Jan Jacob Hilberdink verzorgde de introductie van de bijeenkomst. Het thema van de avond betrof het Atlas exportland Roemenië; een interessante regio voor meerdere Atlas deelnemers. In dit kader was de gastspreker Alexandru Cristescu van de Roemeense ambassade uitgenodigd. Hij heeft in het kort verteld waarom Roemenië een veelbelovend land is voor de Friese ondernemers. Het Atlas project kan enkele nieuwe deelnemers welkom heten: - Dutch Rainmaker (Leeuwarden) - MEKO Holland DairyCheq (Assen) - Onesto Construction (Surhuisterveen) - Trilobes Power International (Joure) Lennard Drogendijk heeft aangegeven graag een vervolg te willen geven aan Atlas. Het Atlas project loopt in 2008 ten einde en Business Development Friesland is ervan overtuigd dat er een Atlas 2 moet komen. Wordt vervolgd……. Hiermee eindigde Lennard Drogendijk de presentatie en was er ruimte voor een goed gesprek tussen bestaande relaties evenals het leggen van nieuwe contacten. Na een korte speluitleg vlogen de golfballen al snel heen en weer en natte ontmoetingen in het riet van de lokale wateren konden dan ook niet uitblijven. In verband met privacy noemen we noemen geen volledige namen (ene Sipke S. en Piet V.), maar er werd meedogenloos gepitchd! Zelfs linkshandige spelers, met geheel eigen techniek (?), boden goede tegenstand en negeerden hierbij opzichtig tips van meer bekwame tegenstanders. Toen uiteindelijk het aantal ballen gehalveerd was konden de meeste deelnemers een redelijk balletje slaan en werd de green zelfs regelmatig gevonden. Onder het genot van een heerlijk zonnetje en ondanks de harde wind was het pitch and putt een geslaagde sportieve ontmoeting waarbij ontspanning goed samenging met zakelijk contact.
Atlas leden wagen een gokje in Leeuwarden Donderdag 29 maart 2007 kon er een gokje gewaagd worden in het nieuwe Holland Casino in Leeuwarden door alle   Na een kort welkomstwoord gaf ATLAS projectmanager Jan Jacob Hilberdink sloot het officiële gedeelte van de bijeenkomst af. Hij kon drie nieuwe deelnemers aan ATLAS verwelkomen; Brio International uit Zeegse, NEO uit Drachten en South Shore Trading uit Delfstrahuizen. Tot slot blikte hij terug op de ATLAS reizen naar Kiev (Oekraïne) en Izmir (Turkije) en keek vooruit naar evenementen in de nabije toekomst. Bijzondere aandacht was er voor:
In Oost-Europa houdt men wel van een gokje aan de speeltafel. Daarom werd de bijeenkomst verder voortgezet bij het nieuwe Holland Casino in Leeuwarden. Een aantal deelnemers is naast veel kennis ook een klein kapitaal rijker geworden.
