GAZIANTEP REGION
Gaziantep is the industrial, logistic and commercial centre of
South-East Turkey and is experiencing fast economic growth. The share
of GNP amounts here to about 5%. Furthermore, about 7% of Turkish
exports is generated here. The success of the city of Gaziantep is
partly due to the strategic favourable location close to the
neighbouring countries Iraq, Syria and Iran. Hence, Dutch companies can
profit from existing Turkish networks when starting commercial
activities in these countries.
The Gaziantep region is industrially developed with a strong projection
on foreign markets and a good location. In addition, the projection on
the middle-east, the high level of infrastructure and connections to
the rest of the country as well as the presence of many firms, make
Gaziantep a very interesting location.
The manufacturing industry in Gaziantep is highly developed and makes
the city one of the leading production centers in Turkey across many
sectors. Most promising sectors in the region are agriculture, the
food-processing and agri-food industry, machine building as well as
textiles, chemicals, metals, plastics and construction. Simultaneously,
sectors like logistics and automation develop continuously.
Furthermore, in the course of the South-Eastern Anatolia Project, a
total of 22 barrages and 19 waterpower centres is constructed close to
Gaziantep, with which 27 billion of kWh energy can be generated and 1.7
million hectare agricultural land can be irrigated. Hence, irrigation
and waterpower projects bear good prospects as well. |
