TALLINN AND HARJU COUNTY
Tallinn is the centre of Estonia’s political and business life. It
is the capital of Estonia and has, together with the surrounding Harju
county, a population of 523,000 inhabitants, which equals 39% of
Estonia’s total population. In the region, about half of all Estonian
companies are located, which produce 50-60% of Estonian GDP.
Furthermore, nearly half of Estonia’s industrial production takes place
here.
The traditional industry branches in the region are textile,
foodstuffs, wood processing, furniture, and building materials, but
also the share of machinery and electronics has increased.
The region us characterized by an exceptionally good communication and
transport infrastructure. Furthermore, Tallinn is a major centre for
R&D, e.g. several agriculture R&D institutions are situated
